The i20 is the successor to the Getz and will replace it in Europe but in India both cars will be sold alongside. The i20 is essentially a car that is intended for export markets but it is an important model for India as well. The base model will be powered by the 1.2 Kappa motor that has just been introduced in the i10. There could also be the larger 1.4 and 1.6 Sigma petrol engines whcih are significantly more powerful. Posted by | Under Maruti Wednesday Aug 12, 2009The A-Star will come with an all new one litre aluminium engine that promises to be smoother and more efficient than the current range of Maruti small car engines. The all new small car will be roomier than the current Alto and will offer better cabin comfort as well. The A-Star will be manufactured in India and sold across Europe, which means that you can expect it to offer relatively good levels of build quality and materials as well. Going by the success of the Swift, you can expect Maruti to load the A-Star with plenty of goodies at an affordable price. The interiors are expected to be stylish as well. The steering feels nice and positive but the tall body means that it does a lean a fair bit if you drive through corners. Maruti has aimed the Splash at the higher end of the hatchback market, so power windows, remote central locking. Pricing will be marginally more than the Swift.
Small car – Tata Nano
Posted by | Under Tata Saturday Aug 8, 2009The Nano will be Tata Motor’s gift to Indians this Diwali. It will come with a 624cc two cylinder petrol engine that delivers 33bhp and is capable of touching three digit speeds. Tata claims that you can manage to get 20kpl out of the petrol engine. The company is also developing a common rail diesel motor, which should be on sale sometime later. Where the Nano impresses thoroughly is in its interior space. According to Tata, the Nano will offer 21 percent more space over the Maruti 800 that’s largely due to the fact that the engine will be placed at the rear, over the rear wheels. In fact, the Nano is wider and taller than even the Maruti Alto. You will have a choice between a base and deluxe version, which will come without and with an AC respectively. There could be more feature-laden variants in the future. The base version, which has no features to speak of will come at the promised price of Rs 1lakh but by the time you get the keys in your hand, expect it to touch Rs 1.2 lakh. The Nano with air con and power windows could end up costing around Rs 1.5 lakh on road.
