Hybrid Ford Fusion
Posted by | Under Ford Saturday Nov 7, 2009The hybrid system that powers the Fusion is similar to the one used onboard the SUV. Using a 2.5-liter four cylinder engine that has its own system for maximizing fuel efficiency called the Atkinson cycle, the Fusion’s engine is accompanied by an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission. The gasoline engine produces a respectable 155 horsepower and 136 lb ft of torque. Unlike the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, Used Cars Denver point out that the new Fusion hybrid features a full hybrid system, which means that Fusion can operate entirely on battery power for a prolonged about of time.
Ford estimates that the new Fusion Hybrid will achieve about 47 mpg in city driving and 43.5 mpg on the highway. Those numbers are strong for the midsize sedan segment and Ford claims they’re enough to make it the most fuel efficient vehicle in its class. But those numbers are still shy of the smaller Toyota Prius which gets about 57 mpg in the city.
